Among the many water activities at Smith Mountain Lake are power boating, canoeing, parasailing, swimming, fishing, water skiing, wakeboarding, and jet skiing.

If you love fishing, you'll be pleased to know that Smith Mountain Lake stocks all kinds of bass -- including the blackmouth bass. Stripers also helped make the SML famous for its fishing but our waters also host excellent populations of crappies and bluegills. Channel catfish can be found in the deepest parts of the lake. Muskies, white bass, rock bass and redbreast sunfish can also be found.

This Striper was caught December 11, 2006 just down from Bay Roc! 42", 27lbs. The big fish are here.

On land you will enjoy many miles of spectacular views of the lake's mountainous shoreline. Golf courses surround the lake and Smith Mountain Lake State Park includes miles of hiking trails. You can also go picnicking, camping, hunting, antiquing, shopping, or just relax. Waterfront restaurants offer everything from pizza to prime rib dinners and gourmet cuisine.

  • Mariner's Landing is an 18-hole, par 72, 5,170-7,155 yard championship golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones. Open March-December; 540-297-7888.

  • Sycamore Ridge is an 18-hole, par 71, 6,300-yard golf course. Open year-round; 540-297-6490.
